friends

Once upon a time their live to great friends in a hamlet near Jaipur. Jay and Vijay had been friends since
their childhood. Now, they were studying in a college, which was at far distance from their place. In the
way , they had to cross a river, pass hills and Sandy area too. They used to go to college together. Thier
friendship was famous in college.

One rainy day the two friends set out for college as usual. They were chatting while walking. perhaps
they were discussing some point of atomic theory which was taught the previous day. The two had
different opinion which led to heated arguments. This was fallowed by abusive language by both side.
Things got so bad that in a fit of anger Jay slapped Vihay. Shell shocked Vijay stared at his friend slapped
me. Both resumed thier walk but now they were silent.

Meanwhile, they reached the river which was overflowing today. Vijay was not a good swimmer. He
stopped into the river but began to drown and flow with force of water in the direction of the flood. Jay
saw this and with out thinking for a second jumped into the river. With difficulty he could drag Vijay out
of the river. He helped Vijay restore his normal breath.

When Vijay became normal, he wrote on a hill that “today my best friend save my life.” Jay who was
observing all this could not help asking, “why did you write it on the hill when I’ve save your life?” Vijay
replied that “we should soon forget wrong done by our friends and dear ones as writing on sand get
erase in no time , but if they do something good for us we should always remember thier kindness just a
writing on stones is forever.” Saying this Vijay hugged his friends and two went to college as if nothing
hard happened.

*TEARS BEHIND A SMILE*

My name is Troy Dylan, I was once one of the most miserable person on earth. My parents were working
abroad so my Aunt Mandy had to look after me but she’s not very nice. She make me do all the house
chores, sometimes she doesn’t let me eat, she beats me up until I have bruises everywhere and she
laugh at me when I cry. I never received anything from my parents because she keeps at all to her self.
My life is unbearable until I met Lily, the girl wearing a hospital mask and this is how we met . I was
sitting alone on our school grotto when she suddenly approach me and ask me…

Lily: Why are you alone? My mom told me that people should be never alone
Troy: I like this way. No one can hurt me.
Lily: I won’t hurt you.
It was like she was telling me to trust her, it made me feel relieved somehow. Then all of a sudden,
she smiled for no particular. She looked an innocent angel, unlike my Aunt. Her hospital mask was
moving in a curve, that’s how I knew that she was smiling although I didn’t see her mouth. Somehow her
smile make me happier. Lily and I became really good friends since then. All my experience at home was
forgotten atleast for a while when I’m with her, but I never saw his entire face before, it made me
wonder

Troy: Lily? Why are you wearing a mask all the time?
Lily: Oh, mom said that I’m sick and I have to keep it on because it helps.
Troy: what’s your sickness?
Lily: it was something like…sa..ner? Can..net? Cancer! Yes it’s cancer. That’s the one.
I was so shocked but she sounded like she doesn’t no have any idea of what’s cancer means. She
said it like a child playing a guessing game. The news almost made me cry. I got the feeling that her
parents didn’t inform her. The she smiled at me again! With that innocent face of her, it’s like she wants
to cheer me up. All she’s ever done is to cheer me up but this time I don’t fell like smiling, not after what
I just found out. But then, she pinched my cheeks, stretching them apart which kind of hurt. She always
managed to surprise me and it seems like she didn’t fail to cheer up this time. Imagining 8-year-old like
Lily having such a terrible disease, saddens me, it’s be a big burden to her parents. Each the gone by, her
condition gets worse and worse up to the next extent that one day she was in a wheelchair at school.
Troy: what happen?
Lily: Since I can’t move my legs anymore, mom bought me this moving chair for me, it’s fun!!
Troy: Lily..

I was getting worried. I didn’t understand her anymore. She’s putting her smile at the wrong
situation, now isn’t the time to be happy
Lily: Troy, Please smile for me
Troy: I didn’t feel like it
Lily: Troy, if you don’t smile. I’ll get sad.
I looked at her and she was crying. She was holding her tears all along. Hiding behind her smile. It
seems like she couldn’t hold her sadness anymore. She cried and cried.
Troy: You can wipe your tears now
Lily: I don’t want to move my arm.
Troy: why won’t you?
Lily: Because it would hurt!
He made her cry even more. I had nothing to wipe her tears with. Then I saw my nectie which it is part
of my uniform, I took it off in used it to wipe her tears.
Troy: Silly girl, you made your mas wet. I wanted to cheer her up, thankfully, she stopped crying.
Troy: Do you have another mask?
Lily: Yes, it is in my bag, my mom put it there.
I took the spare mask from her bag and it suddenly made me realize, I could see her face for the first
time. I faced her with the mask on my hand. I touched the trap on her ear.
Lily:Hold your breath when you change my mask.
I nodded. Then I removed that wet mask from her face… And I Finally saw her face. Lily was so pretty
that she made my face turn red. I really wanted to stay just looking at her but I was running out of
breath. She surprised me again, before I covered her face, she smiled at me, this time I really saw her
lips smiling. The I covered them.
Lily: Thank you Troy.
Troy: if you can’t use your arms and legs then what’s the point of attending school?
Lily: Because you’re her Silly Dilly.
That’s my Lily. Always full of surprises and she’s supper nice. And since then, I understood here a little
more. She smiles to hide her sadness. I also realized I don’t want to see her sa either so I decided to
never show her a frown. Then one day, something I feared happened, Lily didn’t attend school. I got so
worried that I skipped at school to go to her house and see her. Her mother welcomed me in and led me
to her room where I saw her lying on the bed and looking very weak. Her mom left and cried behind our
backs, I guess she also doesn’t want to let Lily see her sad. I approached Lily but before I could say
anything, she faced me and smile again.

Lily: Troy, mom has been helping me with something, were done though
Troy: What?
Lily: There’s calling card near the telephone, could you please call the stated number?
(Troy did as said…he waited for the recipient to pick up.) I never expected to end up calling…
Lena: Hello? Trent’s company how may I be of service?
It was my mom…
Troy: Mom?
Lena:. Troy? Is this you??
I couldn’t help but cry, I can’t explain how thankfull I was to Lily
Lily: tell them to come home.
She’s brilliant.
Troy: Mom? Mommy?
Lena: How are you baby? Has aunt Maundy been treating you nicely?
Troy: No!
Lena: No? What has she been doing to you?
Troy: Really bad thing… I can’t be with her anymore, please come home!
Lena: Right away, baby. Well come home immediately.
My parents are finally coming home, I felt so free that was the best news I’ve heard that was
overedjoy, so happy that what make me cry. When I put down the phone I came to her. And I’m about
to thank her but she said something a head of me.
Lily: Happy birthday Troy.
November 21st, to be honest, I myself forgot it was my birthday. And now her, Lily, she remembered?
I was surprised and thankful it was touching how she remembered my birthday. I just go on ahead and
hugged her.
Troy: I….love you.
Lily: Friend Forever?
Troy: Friends forever.
She make and then her eyes slowly close with a tear drop falling.
Troy: Lily? Hey. Lily?

She didn’t responded, I started to panic.
Troy: Lily! Don’t go yet Lily!
Thank goodness she was breathing but we have to bring her to the hospital. Her mom confronted a
doctor. I saw the doctor shaking his head, saying….
Doctor: Sorry.
We stayed Lily as she was admitted to hospital room.
Lily’s mom: The doctor said that the only thing we can do is be with her until…she..
Her mom burst and tears being unable to finish her sentence, but I know what she meant. I sat by Lily
side and held her hand. She woke up and smile at me again. I wanted to cry so badly but I remember my
promise. I didn’t cry but forced myself to smile instead.
Troy: Don’t go yet okay?
Lily: No not yet.
I did not leave Lily the whole day and the next morning we talked. She was thanking me and
everything, then I became quiet, but she broke the silince.
Lily: Troy?
Troy: yes ?
Lily: whenever you are happy, I will be us well.
Troy: what are you trying to say? It’s not like your going away or anything, right? Right? Right Lily ?
She did not say another word but she’s smiled at me, little did I know, it be her last. When her eyes
closed, she stopped moving.
Troy: Lily? Lily, wake up! Wake up!wake up !!

I could not keep my tears anymore it just flowed out of my eyes. A sign of acceptance that Lily has
already gone but I Forced myself to deny and I kept shaking her, her face was pale. At the that time
there was no denying. Lily left me. My eyes became swollen from crying over her when I left the hospital
. I was devastated, depressed and I was walking weakly. I looked at a front and 2 people stood before
me, my mother and my father where in front of me in person ! I just ran to them, jumped in my mother
arms and they were real. They were really there! There was something that fell out of my pocket, my
father pick it up and give it to me. S picture of Lily secretly snuck in my pocket When I hugged her. I was
her picture when smiling without the mask and the back contained her last word.” Whenever you are
happy, I will be as well. All the questions I’ve been meaning to ask Lily were answered, I understand
everything !!!

Shadow

In a small town just outside of Wisconsin lives a boy name Sam, a 20 year old nursing home volunteer.
Sam always puts the SunnySeal nursing home and all the patients before everything else as he has
grown close to them over the years he has spent volunteering but there is one patient he can help but
want to say far away From Mr. Carson. An elder mn with legs cut off just below the knee. Carson never
talks about how he got the way. Actually, he never talks at all.

One night in the dead of winter Sam decides to stay later than normal to help the nurses prepare the
patients for the big blizzard that supposed to hit sometime during the night.

It’s just hitting 10:00pm and the snow starts falling heavily. Sam begins to fear that he will get caught in
it on his way back home. He heads the nurses station to ask if he can check but none of the nurse are
there. Sam finds this odd because somebody is always hanging around the area but he doesn’t find it
odd enough to worry so he brushes it off. Sam walks to the hallway and the lights go out. He presses the
power button on his cellphone to check the time but his clock has stopped. He text his roommate, Ian
to ask if they still have power but he is shortly interrupted by a screeching cackle. Sam turn his flashlight
on and aims it at the end of the hall where he find Mr. Carson sitting his wheelchair staring blankly at
the wall laughing at nothing. To avoid getting caught Sam backs up quietly and slowly trying to get out of
the hall as fast as possible but he walk back first into a plant and catches Carson’s attention. Carson
stop’s laughing and start wheeling closer to Sam. With each squeak in his wheelchair Sam gets more
terrified. Carson is now in the front of Sam but they are both silent. “Will you take me back to my
room”? Carson stumbles to ask this question after five minutes of silence. “yeah!”. Sam says, knowing it
is the right thing to do even though he is scarred out of his mind. The whole time he’s walking him back
he prays that the nurse will come along and take over him but nobody comes. The two of them make it
back to Carson’s room where Sam helps him into bed and trucks him under extra blankets to help keep
him warm until the power comes back on the heat kicks in again. Sam shivers from a sudden cold wind
that sweeps through the room. “The colds not what you should be worried about tonight. “The old man
says. “What?” Sam ask but no reply. Carson turns his dead to look out the blank wall and begans
laughing again. Sam just brushes It off and heads back to the hall. He decided to go and check the eating
area of the nurses. The floor creeks as Sam walk across it but that’s normal considering the nurses home
was built in the late 30s. Sam open the squeaky door to discover the bodies of the nurses. There’s blood
over this room and a vile smell. Sam hears a disturbing noice. Curious, he shines his light in the corner
when he find a patient, Mr. Robert?” Sam calls out. She turns her head around without moving a single
muscle in her whole body. She covered in the blood of the nurses. Sam quickly backs out of the room
and begins running down the hall where he trips bloody body of the receiptionist. Sam gaps in fear as his
favorite patient, Mrs. Rosemary is chewing the off of the receiptionist legs. He crawls over the closest
door and goes inside the room. Inside he leans his back against his close door and begins he catch his
breath. What Sam sees next horrifies Him so much that the hears on the back of his neck stand straight
up, his arms cover themselves with goosebumps and his heart drops to his stomach. He See’s Mr.
Carson’s shadow but the old man is no where insights. The shadow has legs and his rocking the chair.
Sam lets out the whimper and the chair stop rocking. The shadow stands and begins walking towards
Sam. Sam cries to him self thinking this it is but before the shadow gets to close it vanishes. Sam run out

of the room and past Mrs. Rosemary who is still eating the receiptionist. He runs to the door but the
door is locked. He turnes around and his panic only to find that all the nursing room patients are
surrounding him groaning like zombie. He grabs the phone of the receiptionist desk and throws it
through the glass door and run outs. Sam doesn’t stop running even for a second until he makes it to the
police station where he explains everything to the sheriff deputy. “Where did you say this happened?”
The deputy ask. SunnySeal nursing homes.” Sam replies. That’s not possible. The nursing home has been
closed for years. How did you even get in there?’ the deputy is confused. Sam stands to yell and tell her
she is wrong but then his stopped mid sentence when he notice a photograph of Mr. Carson in the back
of an army trucks in a sunny dessert hanging on the police station wall honoring fallen soldier. Sam gets
closer to the photo only to notice that something was off. The old man had no shadow in this photo.
